Health Bureaucrats Sulk Over New Initiative

Libertarianz deputy leader Richard McGrath today applauded the move by National Women's Hospital to offer luxury maternity care as an option for its post-natal patients. "We thoroughly endorse this attempt to provide a superior service for women, and to charge appropriately for it," he said.

Meanwhile, he criticised the Health Minister's reaction to the proposed user fees. "Mr Creech is apoplectic over the fact that National Women's dared to show some initiative and strive for excellence. They didn't wait for instructions from the central planners in Mr Creech's own National Socialist Party, they implemented this plan on their own. Such initiative clearly upsets the politicians and bureaucrats who want to run everyone's lives from Wellington.

"Mr Creech says that free maternity care is 'given' under a National government." “But,” points out McGrath, “the money used to fund it is 'taken' - from the pockets of taxpayers, many of whom have no intention of parenting children. They should not be forced to subsidise the breeding habits of strangers."

Libertarianz would give people the opportunity to reclaim what Dr McGrath calls their ‘stolen’ tax money, and use it to fund health care for themselves and their families in a competitive deregulated health market.
