WINZ - Libertarianz Calls For Real Accountability
The latest WINZ extravagances have prompted calls for 'accountability', and claims that 'beneficiaries are being betrayed.' "Let me make it quite clear," says Sally O'Brien, Libertarianz Welfare Deregulation spokesman, "it is taxpayers' money that is being wasted, taxpayers who are being betrayed, and taxpayers to whom this department - and the Minister - is accountable. It is our money."
Politicians and bureaucrats do not know the meaning of the word accountability," she says. "The Minister expects a full report next week, whereas I would expect New Zealanders to be able to keep their own money when they wish to."
"While New Zealanders continue to have to contribute to WINZ funding (and the Minister's salary) they can only watch down which drain their money is being poured." Says O.Brien: "This latest blunder demonstrates that genuine accountability will never be achieved if funders cannot withdraw their support when they become dissatisfied with the way their money is being spent."
"Genuine accountability," she says, "just ain't going to happen while such services are funded by compulsory taxation."
