Trees That Count is thrilled to be working with pole-vaulting Olympic medallist Eliza McCartney, who joins the organisation as brand ambassador in May 2019. An environmental science student who loves the outdoors, Eliza makes her first appearance for Trees That Count during a widespread campaign reminding Kiwis to love native trees.
Eliza said she hopes the new campaign encourages more young New Zealanders to take positive action against climate change.
“It can be hard for young people to know what they can do to help our environment. Planting or donating a native tree is a simple way that every New Zealander can make a difference,” says Eliza.
“Native trees offer a really powerful, long-term solution for the challenges facing our environment. They’re not just a quick fix, they’re storing carbon from the atmosphere but also ensuring our native wildlife can continue to flourish.”
Bronze medallist at the 2016 Olympics, and Silver medallist at the 2018 Commonwealth Games, Eliza is now working towards her dream of representing New Zealand at the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo.
Trees That Count Chief Executive Officer, Adele Fitzpatrick said Aucklander Eliza is an inspiring role model for young Kiwis.
“Eliza is a really passionate and hard-working New Zealander, who feels strongly about protecting our beautiful country,” says Adele.
“Having her as a brand ambassador will inspire young New Zealanders to stay hopeful about the future, and to help us build a new generation that values native trees as an integral part of life.”
Trees That Count’s national Love Native Trees campaign runs until July 2019 and also features Kiwi personalities Sir Stephen Tindall, Dame Trelise Cooper and Dr Hinemoa Elder.
