PRESS RELEASE

“Tanzania has been at the forefront of cleaning up their environment of plastic waste in recent years” says Stuart Batty, Honorary Consul for the United Republic of Tanzania . The Government have announced that Effective 1 June 2019, new regulations will impact on people entering Tanzania. The Government statement reads “Visitors/Citizens and residents are advised to avoid packing any plastic bags in their suitcases or in carry-on hand baggage before flying to Tanzania. Items purchased at the airport before boarding the aircraft should be removed from plastic bags. Please check hand luggage before disembarking at entry points and any plastic bag should be left in the plane. Similarly the transparent “Zip-lock” plastic bags that some airlines require passengers to use for keeping liquids, cosmetics, toiletries etc. separately in hand luggage are also not permitted to be brought and should be removed and left on plane before disembarking. Offenders could face very heavy fines.” Visa requirements for Tanzania are also very strict. Persons found to be in the country holding a leisure visa and who are found to be engaged in an activity paid or as a volunteer may be subject to severe penalties. Visitors are advised to fully declare the purpose of their visit on entry and if not for strictly leisure provide documents from their Tanzania hosts stating the purpose and proposed length of time in Tanzania.
