98 million on rehabilitation is a good use of taxpayer money
Today’s announcement of $98 million invested in cutting serious reoffending is a good use of taxpayer money, says the New Zealand Taxpayers’ Union.
Taxpayer’s Union spokesman Louis Houlbrooke says, “In addition to the obvious misery that crime causes for its victims, crime also costs taxpayers billions through the health, justice, and law enforcement agencies. Spending now to cut reoffending can save taxpayers further down the line.”
“As with any spending announcement of this size, the Government needs to monitor its effectiveness, and defund aspects of the programme that fail to deliver results. But in the meantime, the Corrections Minister deserves congratulations for his social investment.”
