McGillicuddy Serious Party regurgitates in Ponsonby

New Zealand’s most-sadly-missed political party will be celebrated at a live ‘chat show’ in Ponsonby this Saturday.

‘The McGillicuddy Serious Party Regurgitated’ is the latest literary event at The Open Book, Auckland’s most switched-on bookshop.

The panel of former McGSP Leader Graeme Cairns, former Party President Mark Servian and former Auckland candidate (and ex-Green-Party-Co-Leader) Metiria Turei will muse on the methods and madness of the one of the world’s largest and most elaborate satirical political party projects. The good folks at The Open Book will host and MC proceedings.

The event also promotes the recently published compendium The McGillicuddy Serious Party Manifesto 1987-1999 Folio Edition, which brings together the five editions of the McGillicuddies’ ‘Great Leap Backwards’ plan in a large format, chunky volume.

It is nearly twenty years since the McGillicuddy Serious Party declared itself a failed millennial cult and closed down. The McGillicuddies are still often asked to resurrect their most infamous creation, but is politics too seriously silly to parody these days?

Come along and find out.

What: The McGillicuddy Serious Party Regurgitated

When: 3pm-4pm, Saturday 4 May 2019
