The 2019/20 New Zealand Living Wage rate will be announced at 4.30pm on Monday 1 April. The announcement will take place
at an event at Seashore Cabaret, 160 Petone Esplanade.
The accreditation as a Living Wage Employer of a large hospitality venue in the Hutt Valley will also be announced.
The event will be attended by Living Wage employers from the Wellington Region, including Wellington city council’s
Mayor, Justin Lester. A number of members of Parliament are also attending, including Parliament’s Speaker and local MP
Chris Bishop. They will be joined by local body politicians, and leaders of community organisations, faith groups and
unions who are part of the Living Wage Movement.
“This is a major event in the calendar of the Living wage Movement and for ethical employers,” said Felicia Scherrer,
the National Living Wage Accreditation Coordinator.
“The take up of Living Wage accreditation is snowballing across a wide range of sectors from corporates like Westpac to
small ethical employers who want to do the right thing and know that paying the Living Wage makes great business sense.
We are looking forward to celebrating the new Living Wage rate.”
The New Zealand Living Wage rate is identified each year by Charles Waldegrave of the Family Centre’s Social Policy
research Unit and Dr Peter King.
