PRESS RELEASE: MESSAGE FROM DR MAYSOON SALAMA, NATIONAL COORDINATOR, IWCNZ
Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji’un.
Greetings of peace to you all.
The tragedy of last Friday has been an overwhelming one for myself and for the Muslim community here in Christchurch. I am currently dealing with the loss of my son, and serious injuries to my husband. I put my faith in Allah and rely on Him to give me strength and courage. I know many other Muslim families are doing the same right now, families who are close friends and very dear to me.
I would like to thank well-wishers across the country and around the world for their kind messages, and for visiting our mosques to grieve with us. My thanks also go out to all government agencies and workers who responded immediately on Friday and have made sure that we have what need at this terrible time. I would like to that all central and local government representatives, and especially our Prime Minster, for the way the support they have given our community in our hour of need.
As my time is needed to support my injured husband and grieving family and friends, I am not able to respond to media requests, nor requests from other organisations. I would appreciate your understanding in this matter.
Any inquiries to the Islamic Women’s Council of New Zealand should now be referred to Anjum Rahman, who is an Assistant Co-ordinator of our Administration Council and also our media spokesperson. She will be in charge of the organisation until I am able to resume my duties.
My final words are a prayer of peace for our beautiful country and for all people around the world. May Allah SWT have Mercy on us all. Ameen.
