TOP Leadership Election Winners Announced

11 December 2018

The Opportunities Party is delighted with the results of the first-ever party election:

The winner of the Leader position is Geoff Simmons. Geoff has been acting as the interim leader and was formerly General Manager of the Morgan Foundation. He brings with him a rock-solid background in TOP’s policy as well as excellent communication skills, particularly when discussing complex issues.

Geoff says “The Opportunities Party is back and calling for the Government to deliver real change that will work for people and businesses. We need tax reform that will put more money in the pockets of hardworking Kiwis, stop housing speculation and drive investment in business, but instead it looks like we will get (at best) a watered down Capital Gains Tax that will hurt business and do nothing to control house prices.”

The winner for Member Representative is Donna Pokere-Phillips, a former TOP candidate. She brings with her a background in law and Māori governance as well as superlative communication skills.

Donna says “I am humbled by this result and thank everyone who voted for me. I look forward to representing our members on the TOP Board and ensuring their voices are heard. I joined The Opportunities Party to achieve real change, not to be a career politician but to ensure our tamariki and mokopuna thrive in a society that promotes fairness and allows them to participate in an acceptable standard of living surrounded by a thriving environment. Being a member on the Board affords me the opportunity to ensure we are on track to achieving a fairer, more sustainable New Zealand through evidence based policies"
