PSA congratulates Public Service Day award recipients

Public Service Association congratulates Public Service Day award recipients

A highly deserving light has been shone on the hard work of core public servants by the first-ever presentation of Public Service Medals and Commendations for Frontline Excellence in Wellington this evening (Monday 5 November).

"The presentation of 14 awards this evening is a testimony to the exceptional lengths that public service workers go to each and every day in the service of all New Zealanders," says Glenn Barclay, PSA national secretary.

"As stated by Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern at this evening's presentation at Parliament this exceptional work by public service workers to improve New Zealanders’ quality of life and wellbeing is rarely acknowledged, and it is fitting that in tandem with the awards we will also have a Public Service Day to celebrate from this year onwards".

Glenn Barclay: "It is important on an occasion like this to acknowledge the wider depth of diversity of the unsung contributions made across the entire public service across the breadth of New Zealand.

"The PSA is proud that six of the 9 State Services Commissioner Commendations for Frontline Excellence presented by State Services Minister Chris Hipkins this evening were awarded to frontline workers who are members of the PSA.

"The awards to Heather Doughty, Noel Harris, Ailsa Parker, Dale Parkes, Patrica Prchal and the posthumous award in recognition of Department of Conservation biosecurity ranger Scott Theobald epitomise a collective spirit of service that we can all reflect on".

The PSA has invited union members to celebrate the first official Public Service Day on Wednesday 7 November on the lawn outside Parliament where speakers from 1pm will include PSA president Janet Quigley.
