Democrats Abroad NZ Holding Events Nationwide
Democrats Abroad New Zealand is holding watch parties nationwide on 7 November 2018 to view the results of midterm elections as they are reported. Parties in Auckland, Hamilton, and Wellington are open to the public.
Auckland, 2 November 2018: Democrats Abroad New Zealand (DANZ) is hosting events in Auckland, Hamilton, Katikati, New Plymouth, Christchurch, Dunedin on 7 November to watch reports of the US midterm election results. In Wellington, they will be attending a Watch Party organized and hosted by Hashigo Zake. While some parties are being held in private homes and are open only to members and friends, the Auckland, Hamilton, and Wellington parties are open to the public. All are welcome at The Fox Sporting Bar and Restaurant at the Viaduct in Auckland beginning at 1 pm. The Hamilton party is being held at the Ruakura Campus Club (AgResearch Campus), beginning at 2 pm. The watch party at Hashigo Zake in Wellington begins at noon.
From Chairperson Mike Haught: “For some American ex-pats, it seems like a thousand years since November 2016, but here we are at a critical decision point in US history. Even though members are thousands of miles away from all the action, Americans living abroad still have connections in the US. Democrats Abroad New Zealand has been
hard at work helping to get out the vote, raising awareness about candidates and issues on the ballot, and helping people register to vote.”
That brings us to Election Day 2018. What’s done is done and now it’s time for the voters to make their choice. To celebrate the big night, Democrats Abroad members are getting together to watch the results roll in with good drinks and friends, whether they are ex-pat Americans or New Zealanders.
Members have been alerted to the event via email and social media. If you are not a member but would like to take part, you can find information on the ‘watch parties’ in Auckland, Wellington and Hamilton on the DANZ Facebook page. If you are an American living in New Zealand and would like more information about the organization, please visit Democrats Abroad NZ.
Democrats Abroad prioritizes issues that affect U.S. citizens living overseas. These issues begin with the most fundamental democratic right - voting, and extend to taxation, health care, equal rights and more, including gun control legislation.
