Unsure outlook at Ministry of Justice after unsuccessful mediation
Despite a full day of mediation between the
Ministry of Justice and PSA in Wellington today there is
still no sign of a new industrial agreement being reached -
with PSA members left with no option but to continue
industrial action which first began almost 6 weeks
ago.
"The mediation today provided more clarity for both parties but ultimately there was no movement on pay, and therefore we are still at a stalemate," said Glenn Barclay, PSA national secretary.
"The cost to the country of disrupted Court days and sittings being caused by the Ministry’s broken pay system is mounting and mounting with each week of action. Unfortunately this follows years of under-resourcing and a Ministry that is facing growing difficulty recruiting enough workers.
"All we can do at this point is to keep calling on the Ministry to take steps to put a reasonable offer on the table towards ensuring a sensible new agreement so that the operation of the justice system can be put back on to an even keel".
