Prime Minister’s obstinacy on tax cuts immoral

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
17 OCTOBER 2018

“It’s incredibly frustrating to see the Government rule out tax cuts at a time when the government books are already bursting,” says Taxpayers’ Union Executive Director Jordan Williams in response to the Prime Minister’s comments today.

“With an unexpected $5.5 billion surplus, it’s clear that the government is taking more money from hard working New Zealanders than it actually needs. To knowingly keep doing so is immoral.”

“Each day that the government refuses to budge on tax relief, inflation pushes New Zealanders into higher tax brackets. Taxpayers deserve to know when they’ll see relief, and respite from the current schedule of punitive, regressive fuel tax hikes.”
