One Week Left: Tell Government your Thoughts on Renting
At Auckland Disability Law (ADL) we see a lot of people having problems renting homes, both in the private rental market and with Housing New Zealand.
The Government is looking to change the law around renting with the reform of Residential Tenancies Act. The government wants to know about your renting experience including if you think your disability is impacting on how you are being treated by landlords and others in the sector.
This is your chance to share your experiences and suggestions on:
• Modifications: Are changes to accommodate your disability timely? Are they the right modifications? Was it easy or difficult getting permission from your landlord to get these modifications?
• Discrimination: Are you treated differently, and been left worse off, in your housing because of your disability?
• Finding and Keeping Rentals: Do you experience difficulty renting suitable homes?
• Assistance Dogs: Are you treated differently, and left worse off, because you have an assistance dog?
• Boarding Houses: Have you had experience living in boarding houses?
Submissions on the proposal changes to rental law must be received by 5pm Sunday 21 October 2018.
