IPCC report just released: Global Warming of 1.5degreesC
The day before the Climate Change and Business Conference the IPPC has released its ground breaking report on Global Warming of 1.5degreesC. The report says urgent and unprecedented changes are needed to reach that target, which it says is affordable and
feasible. The difference between 1.5degrees and 2degrees of warming is significant. The proportion of the global
population exposed to water stress could be 50% lower at 1.5 than 2 – and that’s just one example.
Tomorrow government and business leaders will come together to discuss what action New Zealand should be taking on
climate issues both nationally and internationally, and the role of the business community in transition to net zero. It
is without question that the IPCC’s report will influence the discourse. There will be an opportunity to ask Ministers
and the Opposition what they think the report means for the structure and rigour of New Zealand’s proposed Zero Carbon
Act.
