Upsurge in people looking to Eat Kind

Upsurge in people looking to Eat Kind this World Vegetarian Month

SAFE has sent over 5000 Vegetarian Starter Guides to libraries around the country, in response to a huge surge in interest in the programme.

The resources, put together by SAFE’s Eat Kind team, offer simple advice on how to remove and replace animal products such as meat, dairy and eggs with plant-rich foods, through delicious and nutritious meal options and easy to follow tips.

The increase in interest in the programme follows local and international trends towards plant-based lifestyles. October is also World Vegetarian Month.

Eat Kind’s Programme Coordinator, Krysta Neve, says in 2017, the guides were sent to 27 libraries. This year, 120 libraries signed up – a 300% increase.

“It’s great to see so many libraries getting involved and making these bright and positive resources available in their communities. Vegan food is growing in popularity, with supermarkets filled with coconut ice cream and yoghurt, plant proteins, and of course an array of beautiful fresh fruits and vegetables!”

“World Vegetarian Month is a great time to rediscover flavour, reinvent meals, and make a positive change for animals, the planet, and our health. Our guide and challenge provide people with the information they need to start their plant-rich journey and make it easier to change life-long habits to create a kinder future.”

The Eat Kind free resources are available throughout the year, and can be ordered from SAFE’s website (safe.org.nz/eatkind).
