Media Release: Nigel Farage’s politics not welcome
From: Tāmaki Anti-Fascist Action
Date: 26 August 2018
“When UK far right politician and Trump’s best mate Nigel Farage comes to New Zealand next month, there will be
resistance to his views from communities across Auckland. Tāmaki Anti-Fascist Action is organising a peaceful
anti-racism public demonstration outside of Sky City on Tuesday 4 September at 7pm where Farage is due to speak,” said
Valerie Morse, member of Tāmaki Anti-Fascist Action.
“Speakers at our event include Golriz Ghahraman from the Greens, Emilie Rākete from People Against Prisons, Te Ao
Pritchard from the Pacific Panthers, and Azad Khan from the South Auckland Muslim Association.”
“Our demonstration is themed on rounding up and returning to Farage the racist rubbish that he has been spreading across
Britain and the world. The anti-Semitic, Islamophobic and misogynist views that Farage holds should have no place in the
political landscape of New Zealand or the world. His only solutions for the British people are hatred, economic
isolation, fake news and conspiracy theories.”
“Nigel Farage’s latest claim to fame is being Trump’s stooge - helping to spread a message of white supremacy and
monoculturalism. His ideas are in total opposition to the kind of modern, progressive thinking the world needs to
confront the challenges of inequality, climate change, access to education and human rights. He likes to think his ideas
are original but they are the same tired ideas that didn’t work 70 years ago and that brought about World War II.”
“Its extraordinary that Farage claims to be a champion of Western values, but his views actually attack the very basis
of those values: the presumption of innocence, freedom of religion and freedom of speech. Instead what Farage and others
like him want is a kind of extreme Christian white supremacy where everyone is required to live in a kind of idealised
nostalgic 1950s Britain.”
“Politicians like Farage blame immigrants and European economic integration for all of Britain’s problems. It’s the same
old scapegoating and divide and rule tactics that serve the wealthy at the expense of everyone else. He blames the
victims of US and UK wars of aggression and support for brutal dictatorships as responsible for England’s problems.”
"We say that Nigel Farage is full of sh*t."
