Greens’ gaming policy is just corporate welfare

It’s disappointing to see the Greens abandon their long-held position on corporate welfare for gaming industry subsidies, says the New Zealand Taxpayers’ Union.
Taxpayers’ Union spokesman Louis Houlbrooke says, “In response to news that the gaming industry is thriving, the Greens’ instinctual response is to give it millions of dollars in corporate welfare. That’s appalling. Business needs to stand on its own two feet – dependency on corporate welfare is not a recipe for a sustainable tech sector.”
“The Green Party has rightly campaigned against subsides for businesses in the past. It needs to hold firm and resist the allure of industries that seem innovative and trendy – handouts to politically fashionable businesses are still a waste of taxpayers’ money.”
