Huge early voting in Northcote encouraging
Wednesday 30 May 2018
Northcote Labour candidate Shanan Halbert is encouraged by the huge numbers of people voting early so far in the by-election.
Based on the Electoral Commission’s statistics, the turnout is more than double that at the same point of time in the 2017 General Election.
Date | 2018 Northcote by-election | 2017 General Election |
28 May | 717 | 300 |
29 May | 727 | 283 |
Shanan said “Our team is out everyday doorknocking and encouraging people to get to the polls, and it’s great to see our hard work paying off.”
“Northcote has a huge National majority, but there are signs that many people want a fresh approach and a strong local voice in government. To make that happen, I need everyone who supports my campaign to go out and vote.”
“With the polling having my National Party opponent and me within three points of each other, every single vote will count. Everyone needs to vote by 7pm on Saturday 9 June to have their voice heard.”
“Our team are out on the streets of Northcote every day encouraging people to vote for a strong local voice that’ll get things done. We’re getting a fantastic response and momentum behind our campaign is building.”
