Boosted health spend “Heartening news for breast cancer patients” – Breast Cancer Foundation NZ
Breast Cancer Foundation NZ chief executive Evangelia Henderson describes the boost in health spend in the Budget as heartening.
“We applaud the Government for allocating significant extra spending to health in this year’s Budget,” Mrs Henderson says. “This is truly heartening, as the nation’s health budget has been stretched almost to breaking point and patients have paid the price.
“Hopefully this will iron out some of the regional inequities which make it much harder for patients in smaller centres to get the same level of treatment as those in cities.
“With breast cancer numbers on the rise in New Zealand – around 3,300 diagnoses and over 600 deaths each year – this extra funding is vital for all New Zealanders, whose mothers, sisters, aunts and grandmothers will benefit.”
