The Life Matters Suicide Prevention Trust is beyond excited to announce the opening of The Hope Centre at 3 Albion Place
on the 1st of June.
The Hope Centre will be the heart, soul and headquarters of The Life Matters Suicide Prevention Trust which is the fruit
of countless hours of work from a wonderful team of volunteers lead by Corinda Taylor.
The trust was established in August 2014 and has been at the forefront of ground breaking policy submissions aimed at
improving the state of mental health services in New Zealand. The Hope Centre will host its first meeting at the end of
the month with the Mental Health Inquiry panel. The trust recently received acknowledgement from Professor Ron Paterson,
who is the chair of the panel, for the efforts of Life Matters Suicide Prevention Trust who played no small part in the
Government establishing the Inquiry.
The Hope Centre will act as an information centre to assist those seeking help and for concerned loved ones. Alongside
this service, the Centre will host support networks, bereavement support, education, welfare workshops and help families
navigate the complications in the aftermath stages. The Life Matters Suicide Prevention Trust is aiming to make sure
that nobody should die in despair and alone in the health care system. Zero suicide in our health care system is our aim
and the Hope Centre is just the first step in this journey.
The Centre is the first of its kind in Dunedin, New Zealand and is a welcome peer support group, much needed by the
community.
