Northcote needs a strong voice in Government
Northcote needs a strong voice in Government
Labour’s candidate for Northcote Shanan
Halbert officially launched his campaign at Birkenhead
Primary School today, detailing how he will be a strong
voice for the electorate inside Jacinda Ardern’s
Government, rather than on the Opposition back
benches.
Mr Halbert was introduced by Labour Leader
and Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern to a crowd of more than
500 locals and supporters.
“As a candidate that
lives locally, I know that Northcote needs a strong advocate
inside Jacinda Ardern’s Government,” said Mr Halbert.
“Being an MP inside the Government rather than an
opposition backbencher means I can push for real wins for
our community.”
Mr Halbert talked about his
background, his seven years living in Northcote, his
collaborative style of leadership, and his plan for solving
the big issues facing the electorate.
“I will work
with the local board, Auckland Council, and my Labour
colleagues in Government to help unclog our roads, get more
affordable housing, and to make sure Northcote schools are
delivering world-class education for our kids.”
“I
will advocate for more vocational training options locally
for school leavers and more resources for organisations like
De Paul House to support families who need emergency housing
this winter.”
“Today we launch a Northcote
campaign that is aspirational and unashamedly progressive.
From Beach Haven to Glenfield to here in Birkenhead, this
campaign is about everyone.
“The Northcote
community needs a leader that will deliver. That’s what I
will do as your MP,” said Mr Halbert.
Prime Minister
Jacinda Ardern said, “Shanan is a great advocate that
really cares about his community. I know that he’ll focus
on the issues Northcote cares about. He’ll make a great
local MP.”
“We know Labour are the underdogs in
this race, but we’re giving it our
all.”
