NORML presents J Day today
NORML presents J Day today: free cannabis events
nationwide
J Day is a worldwide protest
against prohibition and a celebration of Kiwi cannabis
culture, held on the first Saturday in May every year.
This is the 27th Annual national day of action supporting cannabis law reform, including safe legal access to medicinal cannabis.
A particular focus this year is supporting the Government's medicinal cannabis bill currently going through Parliament, and getting people on the roll so they can vote in the referendum to legalise cannabis.
New Zealand centres holding J Day events:
• Whangarei – Pohe Island
• Auckland – Albert
Park (feat Yoko-Zuna, SWIDT, Melodownz, Jafa Mafia DJs, Mr
Majesty)
• Hastings – ANZAC/Library
• Taupo –
The Black Shed
• Wellington – Frank Kitts
Park
• Christchurch – Latimer Square
• Dunedin
– The Octagon (after-party at Whakamana cannabis
museum)
All events start at "high noon" and go to 4:20pm,
a time of special significance to the cannabis community.
Notes:
NORML has campaigned for cannabis law reform in
New Zealand, including for medicinal use, since 1980.
Approximately half our members use cannabis medicinally,
reflecting official Ministry of Health figures that show 42
per cent of all cannabis users, or one-in-twenty Kiwis, use
cannabis for therapeutic reasons.
At our 2017 AGM held
in November, NORML adopted a four-point model for good medicinal
cannabis law reform:
1. Patient focused: safe affordable
access to botanical cannabis
2. Immediate effect(not just
a long-term development pathway)
3. Domestic production:
via licenced providers, including small scale providers
(families & individuals)
4. Self provision: choice to
grow/make your own herbal
remedy
