Fonterra shows that biomass can replace coal for process heat
Bioenergy Association congratulates Fonterra on its move to use wood fuel at its Brightwater dairy factory.

Brightwater site by converting the site boiler to co-fire on wood biomass.”
Brian Cox, Executive Officer, says the Brightwater boiler conversion is evidence Fonterra is serious about its
commitment to reduce absolute emissions by 30% by 2030, and transition towards net zero emissions by 2050.

phased approach toward renewable energy sources”
“The move to wood biomass as an energy source signals a confidence in the bioenergy sector and is good news for the wood
fuel supply market.”
“Co-firing wood with coal is a good transition strategy and assists the wood fuel supply sector to increase capacity in
an orderly fashion. This is critical for encouraging wood fuel suppliers to take on more staff and expand their ability
to deliver specified grades of wood fuel.”
