NZ Muslims condemn Israeli attacks
on Palestinian civilians
New Zealand Muslims are calling on the Government to censure Israel for their attacks on Palestinian protesters at the
Gaza border in the past week.
Nineteen Palestinians have died and 1492 have been injured since the Israeli military started using live bullets against
crowds gathered at the border.
The Federation of Islamic Associations of New Zealand (FIANZ, the umbrella organisation for New Zealand Muslims)
expressed its deep concern about the unprovoked Israeli attacks.
“The Palestinian civilians were exercising their legitimate right to peacefully protest against the belligerent Israeli
heavy-handedness,” said FIANZ President, Hazim Arafeh.
“Israel has no regard for the sanctity of human life. The blatant attack by the Israeli military using live bullets
against unarmed civilians is against human decency”, said Mr Hazim.
“Time and again, Israel has seriously violated international law and taken advantage of the silence of the international
community.”
FIANZ strongly condemns the brutal Israeli attacks and the disproportionate use of force.
The Federation is calling on the New Zealand Government and other world leaders, in particular the United States
Administration, to strongly censure Israel for its brutal attack on the civilian population of Palestine.
