Congratulations for America’s Cup Village decision
Stop Stealing Our Harbour congratulates Minister David Parker and the decision makers involved in the waterfront
location of the 2021 America’s Cup bases.
“The final plan is a favorable outcome for all. Not only does it reduce the amount of needless wharf expansion but also
minimizes the local environmental, urban design and economic impacts. The decision has the full support of the Stop
Stealing Our Harbour advocacy group,’” says spokesman Michael Goldwater.
“The decision to limit harbour incursion for the 36th America’s Cup is a huge win for the thousands of Aucklanders who
hold the Waitemata harbour close to their hearts and who are opposed to unnecessary expansion and erosion of our natural
heritage.
“The final plan is light years away from the original proposal which would have squandered ratepayer’s funds as well as
our harbour. As well as the environmental benefits, the selected harbour plan also saves Auckland ratepayers some $50
million.
“Minister Parker needs to be congratulated for the sound judgement in this win-win solution and we wish ETNZ all the
very best with mounting the next challenge.”
