Our Seas Our Future welcomes New Zealand’s commitment to CleanSeas campaign.
OSOF welcomes the recent announcement by Associate Environment Minister Eugenie Sage that New Zealand has signed a pledge and joined the United Nations-led CleanSeas campaign to rid our oceans of plastic.
UN Environment launched the Clean Seas campaign in February 2017, with the aim of engaging governments, the general public, civil society and the private sector in the fight against marine plastic litter.
“It is great to see New Zealand join this international pledge and take responsibility for finding better solutions to our waste production. It would be great to see the New Zealand public support this move by taking their own personal pledge to reduce their own waste footprint.”says Noel Jhinku, OSOF Trustee.
“The simplest and easiest thing a person can do in their home or at work is to think before you buy something, and avoid plastic as much as possible”
“The move will help
reduce the amount of plastic that enters our oceans. Such
plastics are harming our marine life. It will be a win for
conservation, as well as the protection and benefit of our
coastal and marine environments”
