More than 1.2 million people fill in census online
5 March 2018
With just a day to go before the official census day many New Zealanders found time at the weekend to complete their
census online, Stats NZ said today.
“It’s fantastic to see that more than 1.2 million people have done their census,” 2018 Census general manager Denise
McGregor said.
“It doesn’t take long to complete and timing for online forms is averaging four minutes for the dwelling form and eight
minutes for the individual form,” Mrs McGregor said.
Stats NZ has a target of 70 percent of all census forms completed online, but anyone can ask for a paper form instead.
We expect to have delivered codes to everyone by census day (6 March). Anyone who wants to take part by paper, but who
got their access code later than other parts of New Zealand, will still be able to respond after census day.
After 6 March, reminders will be sent and field teams will follow up with households that have not responded.
