Wrong to Call Abortion Health Care

Abortion Supervisory Committee Wrong to Call Abortion Health Care

The Abortion Supervisory Committee's call for greater access to abortion as health care and specifically for the people in South Auckland is of serious concern.

"Health care is about providing the medical needs of patients," says Michelle Kaufman, Director of Family Life International. "Health care does not end the life of one for the convenience of the other."

"Abortion is not health care, it kills one person who even in his or her smallness already has a beating heart."

Family Life International is well aware of the challenges and circumstances that lead pregnant mothers to believe they have no other choice than abortion. For more than 25 years, the organisation has been serving mothers and families who have felt that abortion is their only option.

"Many of these mothers have chosen to let their baby live despite the very real and very serious challenges they face" says Kaufman. "We support them in every way we can."

The organisation sees many women from the South Auckland area. "We are appalled that the Abortion Supervisory Committee would specifically target the South Auckland population for greater access to abortion."

"Pregnant women need real options, real support, real health care for themselves and their pre-born baby."
