Our Seas Our Future Welcomes Government Decision on Microbeads
The decision yesterday by the New Zealand
Government to ban the sale and manufacturing of plastic
microbeads has been welcomed by the non-profit marine
conservation organisation Our Seas Our Future (OSOF).
The Government has made the announcement yesterday, which will come into force in six months' time. This follows on from the work done by the previous National led Government. OSOF are pleased with the decision.
“A sensible call has been made to follow through on banning the sale and manufacturing of harmful plastic microbeads” says OSOF Trustee, Noel Jhinku.
“The move will help reduce the amount of plastic that enters our oceans. Such plastics are harming our marine life. It’s a win for conservation, as well as the protection and benefit of our coastal and marine environments”.
OSOF will welcome any future announcements by the Government concerning a reduction of the use of any plastics.
