Whangarei By Election - Candidate Targetted
My name is Huhana Lyndon and I am standing in the Whangarei District Council By Election.
I have a strong campaign in the local community with a large number of billboards, active social media campaign and
presence in local events and activities. My door knocking started this weekend and I am attending the organised meet the
candidates events.
The Denby Ward includes Tikipunga, Kamo, Whau Valley, Otangarei and parts of Kensington. Following the promotion to
enroll in the General Election, Whangarei now has 94.88% registered voters, with 14,339 registered voters in the Denby
Ward (11,670 general, 2,669 Maori roll).
In just under two weeks I have had 9 billboards damaged/ destroyed, with four today in the Kamo area. While my
billboards continue to get damaged others remain untouched next door. I will now be reporting this matter to the
Whangarei Police as I feel I am being targetted by those who seek to undermine my campaign to represent the Denby Ward
Community.
I am an active advocate in the community. I'm raised in the Denby Ward and chose to live with my daughters here too. I
have many years of experience working in Whangarei District Council processes and am well versed in the machinery of
local government. I am young, female and Maori - and appear to be the only one suffering from this level of ongoing
vandalism.
I stand for:
• Increased equity of spend for Denby Ward
• Great investment in grassroots initiatives
• Sustainable management of council debt
• Healthy, vibrant and thriving communities
• A child youth friendly city
• Greater focus on pensioner services
There is so much opportunity for Denby to grow, we need to be bold in our outlook, courageous in our thinking and have
fierce determination. A vote for me is a vote for a strong passionate advocate for our community.
I have a post on my FB page highlighting the ongoing vandalism. You can follow my campaign here: https://www.facebook.com/HuhanaLyndon/
