Poster campaign targets National’s “scummy” water policy
A poster campaign begins today in Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch and Dunedin criticising the National government’s
abysmal record on protecting New Zealand’s river and lakes from pollution.
“Water has become a key issue this election and we’re keeping up the pressure on behalf of the public,” says Choose
Clean Water spokesperson, Marnie Prickett
“Our posters feature a young New Zealander because the Ministry of Health says children are likely to be more at risk
from waterborne disease associated with faecal contamination.”
“Not only does the current water policy risk people’s health, it also allows high levels of the contaminants that cause
algal blooms, which turn our rivers’ green and scummy.“
“Health and the environment are two of New Zealanders’ top three concerns this election, according to a recent poll.
And, we’ve seen through our country’s fresh water pollution that health and the environment are intertwined.”
