Politicians Share A Tub 4:30pm today
It may be too early to talk about getting into to bed together, but candidates from National, Labour and the Greens, will be sharing a tub this afternoon(430pm La Cigale, Parnell, Auckland Sept 14th) all for a good cause.
National’s Paul Goldsmith, Labour’s Helen White, Green’s Candidates Julie Anne Genter and Ricardo Menendez March, are all taking part in the Heart Kids annual 360Heart Stopper Challenge.
The challenge has been running for more than 15 years, and involves sitting in a tub of 10 degree water for 360 seconds (6 minutes) to raise awareness for the 12 babies who are born with heart defects every week in New Zealand. The idea of the challenge came from the father of a heart kid, and the icy water represents what the children go through during a heart operation. An icy slush is packed around the heart allowing surgeons more time to perform their life saving operations.
Heart Kids CEO Rob Lutter says with the election heating up there’s no better way for the candidates to cool down. “I think discussing policies will be the last thing on everyone’s minds – they’ll just be counting down the seconds until they can get into the hot tub afterwards.”
The politicians will join heart families, sports teams, CEO’s and dozens of others in today’s event which launches the beginning of Heart Stopper Challenges throughout the country.
A congenital heart defect (CHD) is the most common serious birth abnormality in New Zealand and there is no way to prevent it or cure it.
Heart Kids is the only organisation in New Zealand dedicated to providing lifelong care and support for children, young people and families impacted by childhood heart defects (CHD).
