No Pride in Prisons is now People Against Prisons Aotearoa
The prison advocacy organisation No Pride in Prisons has officially changed its name to People Against Prisons Aotearoa as of 1 September.
“The new name is a reflection of where the organisation is at now,” says People Against Prisons Aotearoa spokesperson Emilie Rākete. “The prison harms everyone it touches, so our organisation must draw on all communities to resist it. For the last year we have been an organisation which anybody can join, and our name now reflects that.”
“We are not just a queer and trans organisation — we are an organisation that encompasses all groups affected by incarceration. ”
The name change also marks the launch of the organisation’s new website, papa.org.nz, from which resources, contact information, membership applications and more are all available.
