Armed Robber Gets Hand Smacked

invasion – gets smack on the hand.SST
Sensible Sentencing Trust is shocked that an armed and dangerous offender could go on a month long lethal premediated
crime spree shooting innocent victims and still get an extremely lenient sentence.
Scott Guthrie, SST Manawatu Spokesman said, “Each of his eight crimes could have seen him imprisoned for many years for
each and every offence, and yet this offender will more than likely be released within eight years.”
“Why is our judicial system so weak that it can’t even come close to using the sentences available to it to keep the
public from harm?” Guthrie asked.
“Here we have an offender who was terrorising and shooting people for personal gain and satisfaction but the Judge still
fails to utilise the tools Parliament has given them to keep the community safe.”
“This is not a case where an offender used a firearm to rob a fish and chip shop. This was a much more serious scenario.
Douglas Roake committed six aggravated robberies and then shot and injured two innocent members of the public during an
armed home invasion. This offender has devastated and traumatised countless victims’ lives with callous planned
premediated offending.” said Guthrie.
“And what sentence does Judge Jane Farish give this armed thug? Six and a half years minimum non-parole when he could
have been sentenced to that for each offence and ensured the public would be safe for many years to come."
“Why did Judge Farish not use cumulative sentencing? What about public safety? What about victims’ rights?" Guthrie
said.
