Sir Geoffrey, Sue Moroney right to object to secrecy of Wevers' report
9 AUGUST 2017
The Taxpayers' Union is welcoming renewed calls in the last 24-hours, by Sir Geoffrey Palmer and Sue Maroney, for the Speaker to publicly
release the Sir Maarten Wevers' report which lead to the resignation of the Auditor General and says that it puts the
ball firmly back in David Carter's court to explain the decision.
Jordan Williams, Executive Director of the Taxpayers' Union, says "The speaker said that it was a unanimous decision by parties not to release the report, but we now know that's not
true. Both Peter Dunne and Winston Peters have called for the report to be publicly released".
"On this morning's Nine to Noon, former Prime Minister Sir Geoffrey Palmer said that the Auditor General Office's integrity means that, at the very
least, the public is entitled to a better explanation as to why this report has been kept secret. That a report may be
in draft is not good enough - Mr Speaker needs to front up."
