Mika Haka Reacts to Parliament Introducing Legislation to Wipe Gay Convictions
“I come from the period where dozens of my friends faced convictions, police raids and harassment for having sex with another man. This is way overdue.
This is a day to remember all the men who lost their jobs. Their wives and children, many were closeted, and their whanau. This is also a reminder that hate still exists and flourishes. Together we must keep forging all human rights.”
In 1991 Mika's gay pop hit “Loved me a Man” was banned from being streamed on public radio.
