Green Party selects small business owner and sustainability expert as candidate for Taupō
The Taupō branch of the Green Party has selected Julie Sandilands as Taupō candidate for the 2017 general election.
A small business owner and former sustainability consultant in the metals and mining industry, Sandilands, 33, is passionate about future proofing the contribution of small business to New Zealand.
“Small businesses who care about the environment should be encouraged and rewarded for their efforts. Sustainability shouldn’t be penalised,” Sandilands said.
The Green Party Business Tax Breaks for Clean Transport Options policy removes Fringe Benefit Tax on electric cars, rewarding businesses who offer more sustainable transport options to their employees.
“This policy is a great example of how the Green Party will work with small businesses to ensure they are both profitable and sustainable, making the future of New Zealand better for everyone.”
“Many small businesses across the Taupō region work intimately with the environment. These business owners understand the importance of preserving our natural environment and have great ideas that could benefit all of New Zealand.”
The Green Party commitment to clean water, and policies such as the Taonga Levy have particular benefits to the Taupō region, as many businesses rely on tourists attracted by the natural beauty of the region.
“We all want New Zealand to be prosperous in the long term, as well as today. The Green Party Taonga Levy will provide a sustainable source of revenue to keep New Zealand beautiful for future generations.”
