This World Refugee Day, June 20th, ChangeMakers Refugee Forum volunteers will be out on the streets of Wellington for
our first ever street appeal. We will be collecting essential funds for our work to support Wellingtonians of a refugee
background.
ChangeMakers Operations Manager Mozhdeh Wafa today said “We know that the people of Wellington are extremely welcoming
to former refugees when they first arrive which is wonderful. However, ongoing support for communities is essential as
settling in a new place can be very difficult – that’s where we come in. We’re hoping to see people giving generously on
the streets of Wellington on the 20th June to help out their neighbours of a refugee background.”
ChangeMakers Refugee Forum's work centres around supporting New Zealanders of a refugee background to fully participate
in NZ life. This includes:
- Community Development - including helping people learn to drive and running a drop-in centre for advice and support
- Advocacy - advocating for former refugee rights, alongside people of a refugee background
- Research - collaborating on research which will benefit refugee background communities.
ChangeMakers volunteers – both of a refugee background and from the New Zealand community - will be on Cuba Street,
Willis Street, Lambton Quay and around the Train Station regularly throughout the day.
