Women’s Refuge pleased with announcement on ICLD collection

Women’s Refuge welcomes the Government’s announcement of a new project that will see the Privacy Commissioner, the
Government Chief Information Officer and the NGO sector working together to ensure that the new system for collecting
and storing Individual Client Level data is secure and robust.
“It is pleasing to see the Minister and Government slowing the process to ensure data collection and storage will be
rigorous and secure, and that our client’s information will remain safe,” says Women’s Refuge Chief Executive Dr Ang
Jury.
Refuge raised some concern that the uncertainty around data collection, breech in privacy and new requirements could
compromise the new Outcome Agreements contracts that are to commence in July this year, however NGOs will not be
required to collect any information until the project is completed.
“We are familiar with and work with contract variations frequently, so it is a relief that we can continue to help
support the 40,000 women and children who need our help annually without fear that their safety and privacy will be
breeched, or that our funding could be compromised.”
This work will also include the development of a Purpose Statement that will cover issues the Privacy Commissioner has
raised, for example; the purposes for the data collection, the intended uses of the data, and who will have access to
and use of the data.
