1. Fiji Employment Minister launches 2017 USP Career Fair
The University of the South Pacific (USP) has been commended for endeavouring to provide the best stage for career and
entrepreneurial development. Honourable Jone Usamate, Minister for Employment, Productivity & Industrial Relations paid tribute to USP while launching the 2017 Entrepreneurial and Career Fair at the Japan-Pacific
ICT Centre on 1 May, 2017 at the Laucala Campus in Suva. He urged employers and organisational representatives to be
committed to this initiative by the University and help to provide employment opportunities to USP graduates. The launch
was attended by representatives from Government ministries, the corporate sector, employers, sponsors, invited guests
and staff and students. The week-long Career Fair will include an Employer Exposition with 60 top employers in the
country, lunch time seminars on Career Choices and presentations on starting your own business.
2. USP-New Zealand HLC, a success
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade (MFAT), New Zealand, hosted a High Level Consultation (HLC) with The
University of the South Pacific (USP) in Wellington on 26 April, 2017. The HLC with New Zealand is an annual bilateral
event to deliberate on strategic level discussions between the two long-standing partners as well as discuss progress
and challenges of the University towards the implementation of its Strategic Plan (2013-2018). The four-member
delegation from USP, led by Professor Rajesh Chandra, Vice-Chancellor and President had positive discussions with senior
MFAT officials led by Mr. Jonathan Kings, Deputy Secretary, Pacific and Development Group, on strategic issues relating
to Regional Education and Skills Development; Regionalism and Partnership; Performance and Accountability; and the New
Zealand-USP Partnership.
3. VC pays courtesy visit to VUW
The Vice-Chancellor and President of The University of the South Pacific (USP), Professor Rajesh Chandra met Professor
Grant Guilford, Vice-Chancellor of Victoria University of Wellington (VUW) on 27 April 2017. The visit presented an
opportunity for both institutions to deliberate on the current level of engagement and discuss potential future
collaborations between USP and VUW. VUW, Professor Guildford mentioned that there needs to be more collaborative
engagement between the two institutions to enhance the areas of cooperation under the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU).
