Marja Lubeck selected as Labour’s 2017 candidate for Rodney
Marja Lubeck has been selected as the Labour Party candidate for Rodney for the 2017 General Election.
“I look forward to campaigning in Rodney on the issues that matter locally - transport, decent housing, health and
education,” says Marja Lubeck.
“It has never been more important to engage in the decision over who governs us. Working people are vital to the future
of our country. We need to ensure that is respected.”
“I believe it is crucial to have a change of government, because the continued attacks on workers’ rights are driving
wages down. This in turn makes it impossible for many New Zealanders to afford a warm safe place to live. It makes good
healthcare and education unaffordable, limits choices, erodes quality of life.”
“I believe that you keep learning through your entire life and I have worked hard for my entire life. I now want to use
my experience, knowledge, and the skills I have developed over the years, to make a real difference,” says Marja Lubeck.
Marja served four terms as president of the Flight Attendant and Related Services Association and has recently been
appointed to the role of Etu Director of Organising Aviation.
As a qualified lawyer and the lead advocate in negotiations with the airlines that operate out of New Zealand, she’s
settled many large scale collective and multi union collective agreements for hard-working people. She lives in the
Rodney district with her husband and son.
Labour’s President, Nigel Haworth, said: “Marja joins our growing list of energetic and fresh candidates who are
standing for Labour in 2017. Our focus is on electing a strong, Labour-led government in September that will rise to the
challenge, back the Kiwi Dream and build a better New Zealand.”
