ANOTHER STEP TOWARDS PAY EQUITY
The New Zealand Federation of Business and Professional Women (BPW NZ) is pleased that Parliament now have another tool for gender equity in the workplace.
“The news that the Equal Pay Amendment Bill was drawn from the ballot yesterday is great news for women,” says President Vicky Mee.
“Now that the government has taken on board the recommendations of the Joint Working Party on Pay Equity Principles, cross-party support for this new bill will make it easier to pay women the same as men for the same work.
“It’s 2017 - the year when there is the possibility of gender equity in employment becoming a reality.
“Transparency around starting pay for the same jobs and understanding the rate of pay movement in the same jobs is important.
“It’s great to see a new bill taking in to account the processes that need to change in order to empower women in the workplace.
“BPW NZ is looking forward to seeing the reality of pay equity,” says Ms Mee.
