CAA targets accidents caused by carelessness with fuel - Wellington
The Civil Aviation Authority is targeting the high rate of air accidents, nationwide, due to polluted fuel, insufficient fuel, or blocked fuel lines.
The CAA is making the issue the focus of its AvKiwi Safety Seminar for 2017.
“Problems with fuel are a surprisingly regular cause of engine failure,” says seasoned AvKiwi presenter, and 2015 CAA Instructor of the Year, Carlton Campbell.
“In the 2017 seminar, Fuel for Thought, animation, and interviews with those involved and experts, reconstruct recent accidents arising from either fuel contamination, fuel ‘exhaustion’ (no more in the tanks) or fuel ‘starvation’ (it’s there but can’t get through).
“Fuel, and the way it is managed, affects everyone in aviation, every day. We want those in the Wellington region to come away from the seminar with a renewed respect for the importance of good fuel handling”.
The Fuel for Thought 32-seminar national roadshow kicks off in Wellington at the Civil Aviation Authority, 15th floor, Asteron Centre, 55 Featherston Street, on Thursday 16 March at 7 pm. It’s free and there’s no need to book.
