Taihape: Rangitīkei ki Rangipō, Hearing Week 1
The Waitangi Tribunal’s Taihape (Wai 2180) district inquiry will open the first week of its hearing programme on Monday 6 to Friday 10 March 2016. It will be held at Rātā Marae, Hunterville beginning with a pōhiri at 8:30am on Monday 6 March 2016.
The kaupapa for the first hearing week will focus on the oral and traditional history of the district and its peoples. Technical witnesses, Tony Walzl, David Armstrong and Peter McBurney, will present summaries of their research in this area. Inquiry parties have been invited to seek leave for the cross-examination of these experts.
Tangata whenua evidence related to their traditional history will also be presented by the claimants.
The second hearing will be held jointly with the Porirua ki Manawatū (Wai 2200) panel. This is scheduled to take place on Tuesday 30 and Wednesday 31 May 2016.
The Taihape inquiry is presided over by Judge Layne Harvey. The Tribunal Panel includes Professor Pou Temara, the Honourable Sir Douglas Kidd, Dr Angela Ballara and Dr Monty Soutar.
