Mt Albert by-election: Wakeman view of media

Mt Albert by-election for a new MP on the 25/2/17 Wakeman view of media

Our parliament appears to be a hive of activity laced with honey coated travel and pension plan perks. It is almost akin to a holiday resort. Politicians get paid to stay provided they are voted in or are on the ‘list’. Every three years, rather than voting for current members to leave, we vote for the new ones we wish to enter the Beehive to taste some of our delicious kiwi taxpayer honey.

Do Kiwi political journalists sometimes report parliamentary affairs as if they are reporting on a beauty pageant? There are few tough questions. (Advertising revenue gleaned from the private sector and state agencies, indirectly funds the journalists’ pay packets.) They are reluctant to bite the hands that feed them.

Our financial gurus are a protected species too. They create most monetary debt as money with impunity, as they have done for years. They then lend it at a significant margin, aided and abetted by a willing press, and the average Kiwi seems quite oblivious to the bankers’ and journalists wily ways. Perhaps the hangover from our hunter gatherer days makes our society susceptible to a herd mentality approach compounded by digital ignorance or dementia.

A cooking show comparison might start in the bush with the public kitchen on public land and the gardens, from which the ingredients are selected, bulging with abundant food sources all free from private ownership. We are now watching episodes near the end of the cooking show series. The kitchen is mortgaged, rented or contracted out on a lease to a privately owned company, financed with a loan, created as bank debt, to make a trumpeted profit, while 35,000 young kiwi kids and needy citizens of our society go hungry. In pursuit of these goals we are destroying our planet and racing towards ultimate humanextinction. The final show will involve us all. Together, hand in hand, we will face the collapse of civilisation as we know it and the demise of the human race .
