Wakeman calls for Investigation into NZ emergency services

Peter Wakeman, an independent candidate for the Mt Albert by-election, says that it is time for an public inquiry into the effectiveness of emergency responses for the Pike River mine disaster, the Earthquakes and the recent fires in the Canterbury & Hawks Bay provinces. Alerts updates for Tsumami, Volcano and Water issues need to be considered too.
Areas for investigation would include emergency call centre responses, the chain of command information, warning mechanisms, executive actions and responses; and the structure and effectiveness of the Civil Defence organisation and how everyone is updated.
In the current emergency household and company's insurance policy coverage and limits have come into question. People were forced to leave home with no food, money or insurance provision to cover alternative living costs
Government is ultimately responsible for the welfare of its people in disaster situations. Food anddistributed water to water users who supply the public and sites where large groups of people are.
