Animal activists happy Waikato Rodeo is cancelled tomorrow
What: Animal rights protest at the Waikato Rodeo
Who: Direct Animal Action
New Date: Saturday 11th March 2017, 1pm
Where: Kihikihi Domain, Corner of Grey & Dick Streets, Kihikihi, Te Awamutu
Animal rights activists from Direct Animal Action were planning to protest outside the Waikato Rodeo tomorrow but instead are celebrating its cancellation due to weather conditions.
“We’re really relieved the rodeo has been cancelled tomorrow. The wet weather severely increases the risk of injury to already stressed animals forced to perform in the arena,” says Amie Wolken spokesperson for Direct Animal Action.
On their Facebook page, the Waikato Rodeo have announced their rain-date as Saturday 11th March.
“We’ll be there in full force protesting for the animals on their rain-date. Footage shot at the Mid-Northern Rodeo recently exposed shocking abuse of animals including teenage cattle repeatedly shocked with electric prodders.
“We have no doubt similar types of abuse will go on at the Waikato Rodeo because this type of behaviour is intrinsic to rodeo,” says Ms Wolken.
