Alan McKenzie anticipates healthy contest for Ohariu

Long-standing party member and nominee Alan McKenzie sees the interest in the Labour Party candidate selection process for the Ohariu Seat as a healthy sign.

“I held office in the Labour Party before I was even licenced to drive at the age of 15. Through the following 35 years of support for Labour and its’ values, I have always felt that a solid commitment to democratic principles and civic participation was a key aspect of that support. That 2 nominees are putting themselves forward for Labour’s candidacy and the recognition of the importance of Ohariu as a seat is a great thing’ Mr McKenzie said.

“I have had a full career of service roles, general management and business-to-business relationship management roles in the corporate arena. I am absolutely committed to applying that experience to serving the people of Ohariu as their Member of Parliament. Just as importantly I am compelled to becoming an active member of a Labour lead government when it is elected later this year” he continued.

“I am determined that my daughter will have the opportunity of moving her and her family into a safe, healthy and affordable home when the time comes. I cannot contemplate a future for her where she does not have the same chance at a full and happy life, like the one that I have enjoyed”

Alan believes that the Labour Party candidate selection process is a well-balanced, inclusive and equitable one.
“Labour is one team with one clear and immovable goal for 2017. We will work to change the government and we will make our country a better place to live. The candidate selection process brings together Labour people with both a local community perspective and those who are tasked with presenting Labour’s profile to New Zealand” he said.

Mr McKenzie acknowledged the strength, compassion and integrity of local party activists and looks forward to an ongoing working relationship with them leading into the election on September 23rd.
