Progress on equal pay principles from the Government

“The Pay Equity Coalition Auckland welcomes progress on equal pay from the government. The equal pay principles
announced today should create a huge economic boost for our city. Half the population currently suffers on average a 14%
pay cut each hour they work. We hope these principles will help women to be paid fairly and will bring much needed cash
to working families and to local businesses.
The Pay Equity Coalition Auckland (PECA*) congratulates Business NZ on their contribution to finding a way for women to
be paid fairly according to the value of their work. We want to say to Auckland employers – don’t be afraid – equal pay
will be good for your business as well as your employees.
Ros Hiini from the Working Women’s Resource Centre says ‘Our coalition will be watching to see how effective the
government’s proposed changes to the law will be in making sure that working women are paid what they are worth’. ”
